AlgaeBulb – Lighting the Future with Living Algae
Introduction
When we think of light bulbs, we imagine electricity flowing through wires. But designer Gyula Bodonyi has reimagined illumination by harnessing the power of chlorella pyrenoidosa spirulina microalgae. His invention, the AlgaeBulb, is a tear-shaped LED lamp powered by nature itself.
Air Pump & Hydrophobic Container: The bulb contains a tiny pump that pushes air into the algae chamber.
Carbon Capture: The algae absorb CO₂ and water, thriving inside the bulb.
Oxygen Release: As algae flourish, they release oxygen, which powers the LED.
Visual Effect: When off, the bulb appears dark green; when lit, it glows with a subtle green tinge.
