Yadea KIFA: The Electric Motorcycle Built for Africa’s Boda-Boda Revolution

Electric mobility is no longer limited to private commuters. In markets where motorcycles are a major part of everyday transportation and last-mile delivery, electric motorcycles can create an even bigger impact.
That is exactly where **YADEA KIFA** comes in.
At Autoexpo Kenya 2026, YADEA unveiled KIFA as a commercial electric motorcycle developed specifically for Africa’s growing commercial mobility market. Kenya marks YADEA’s second East African market after Ethiopia, where the company says it has already sold more than 48,000 electric two-wheelers.
## Built for commercial mobility
KIFA is not designed simply as an urban electric motorcycle. Its engineering focuses on the realities of commercial riders.
The motorcycle can carry a **payload of up to 250 kg**, while its extended **770 mm comfort seat** is designed for passenger use. A reinforced **220 mm rear cargo rack** adds flexibility for delivery and logistics applications.
## 150 km range + 30-second battery swap
One of KIFA's biggest highlights is its battery architecture.
It uses **two removable 72V 30Ah LFP batteries** and offers a claimed range of **up to 150 km**. More importantly for commercial riders, the batteries can reportedly be swapped in as little as **30 seconds**.
For a boda-boda rider, this could be more important than simply having a large battery.
Instead of waiting for a conventional charging cycle, battery swapping can allow the vehicle to return to work quickly.
YADEA is also working with Kenyan battery-swapping company **ARC Ride**, connecting the motorcycle with a local energy ecosystem.
## Why KIFA matters
The interesting part of KIFA is not just the electric powertrain.
It is the **business model around the vehicle**.
For commercial riders, uptime directly influences income. A motorcycle that can carry passengers, transport goods, swap batteries quickly and operate with a supporting charging ecosystem could make electrification more practical.
This is where Africa's EV transition could look very different from the private-car-focused EV transition seen in many other markets.
## What about the price?
YADEA's official Kenya launch announcement confirms the product and specifications, but it does **not publish an official Kenyan retail price**. Therefore, any KSh price circulating online should be treated as dealer/market pricing unless confirmed by YADEA Kenya.
For reference, the Kenyan Shilling to Indian Rupee conversion changes with the exchange rate; the current conversion shown above is approximately **1 KES ≈ ₹0.737**.

### The bigger picture

KIFA shows how electric motorcycles can be designed around the **actual economics of commercial riders** rather than simply replacing a petrol motorcycle with an electric motor.

Fast battery swapping, high payload capacity and commercial-focused design could become important building blocks for Africa's electric mobility ecosystem.

The bigger question is no longer *“Can motorcycles become electric?”*

It is:
**“Can the entire commercial mobility ecosystem become electric?”**

KIFA is an interesting step in that direction.
